“A serious wine, which still offers rich, powerful fruits. The aromas are of herbs and red fruits, the tannins are dense, with berry flavors, and the final effect is of great pure fruit.” –  Wine Enthusiast

Description

Château Lafleur-Gazin is a distinguished estate located in Pomerol, one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious appellations, renowned for producing rich, opulent, and age-worthy Merlot-based wines. Situated between Château Lafleur and Château Gazin, Lafleur-Gazin benefits from some of the region’s finest terroir, marked by clay and gravel soils that provide ideal conditions for cultivating Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Château Lafleur-Gazin is part of the esteemed Moueix portfolio, known for its dedication to quality and respect for traditional winemaking.

The 2000 vintage in Bordeaux was exceptional, regarded as one of the best vintages in recent history due to near-perfect weather conditions throughout the growing season. This vintage delivered wines with both structure and richness, and Château Lafleur-Gazin’s 2000 offering is no exception, showcasing Pomerol’s signature elegance, depth, and the concentration that defines a great vintage.

The 2000 vintage was marked by a warm, dry summer and a cooler, dry harvest period, providing ideal ripening conditions and allowing winemakers to pick at optimal ripeness. This vintage is celebrated for its balance of intense fruit, well-integrated tannins, and age-worthy structure. Wines from Pomerol in this vintage often display a rare combination of approachability and potential for long-term cellaring, and Château Lafleur-Gazin 2000 is a prime example of this harmony.

After more than two decades of aging, the 2000 Château Lafleur-Gazin has reached a level of maturity that reveals its full complexity and depth. In the glass, it displays a deep garnet color with hints of brick at the rim, reflecting its age.

On the nose, the wine offers an aromatic bouquet of black cherry, plum, and blackberry, characteristic of Merlot, intertwined with layers of earth, truffle, and a touch of graphite. As it opens, notes of cedar, dried herbs, and a hint of leather emerge, showcasing the wine’s time spent in both oak and bottle.

The palate is rich and harmonious, with flavors of dark fruit, such as blackcurrant and blackberry, complemented by secondary notes of tobacco, anise, and subtle spice. The tannins have softened beautifully over the years, creating a silky mouthfeel and a balanced structure. The wine’s acidity remains fresh, adding lift and vitality to the full-bodied profile. The finish is long, with lingering flavors of dark fruit, earth, and a touch of minerality that speaks to Pomerol’s unique terroir.

Its plush fruit and earthy notes make it an ideal companion for roasted or grilled meats, such as lamb, duck, or beef tenderloin. Mushroom-based dishes, like wild mushroom risotto or truffle-infused pasta, complement the wine’s earthy, truffle-like aromas and flavors.
